Late

You say that you are one of my strongest supporters and
one of my biggest fans.

I go to you for legal advice, professional advice,
for encouragement and for humor.
I am quick to tell you silly things,
and serious things too.

After every falling out,
we always piece ourselves back together.
You have witnessed my growth and some of my most monumental moments.
I’ve looked at you differently for quite some time now,
but this cycle we have going has to end.

You have been a part of my life for so long,
it’s hard to picture you not in it.
I wonder, how much of an impact did you really leave on me?
Are my feelings stretching the truth?

You are my lover,
not my friend,
and it’s too late to become the latter.
